Remembering the Year’s Highlights

In 2021, contractors increasingly turned to digital prefabrication for building solutions, which has helped push material- and time-saving innovation throughout the construction industry and kept us at Digital Building Components on our toes. With such an active year coming to a close, we want to reflect on all that’s been accomplished and share a few of the many projects we’ve been grateful to be a part of.

Key projects completed

As the construction industry regained momentum, we were able to help builders recoup critical time. The following list showcases some noteworthy projects we helped bring to the finish line in 2021.

  1. UC Davis - Shasta Hall opened almost a year ahead of schedule thanks, in part, to the collaborative prefabrication process, which shaved nearly two months from the original timeline. These two months allowed the residence hall’s opening to coincide with the 2021/2022 academic school year.
  2. MilliporeSigma opened a new facility, doubling the company’s capacity to support viral gene therapy. Digital Building Components provided both non-load-bearing and load-bearing interior walls for this 140,000 square-foot facility.
  3. AC Hotel by Marriott in Scottsdale, Arizona, utilized digital prefabrication to keep the project within budget while minimizing disruptions to the adjacent resort. Further, our prefabricated walls improved longevity and allowed for a taller building.
  4. Vantage Data Centers opened their second facility in Santa Clara, California, this past year. The new facility uses our exterior insulation finishing systems, which can be installed up to five times faster than conventional methods.

Awards and Milestones

In addition to these projects (and many more), Digital Building Components hit a key milestone: 1000 Days of Zero Safety Incidences. We are so proud of our team for not only helping complete projects on time or ahead of schedule but also for showcasing safe construction practices. Digital Building Components is proof speed and safety do not need to be at odds.

We are also excited to see some of the projects we were involved in be recognized. The AC Hotel by Marriott won a Gold Key Award for Best Hotel Focused Service. Our prefabricated, load-bearing walls helped complete this project three months quicker than average. They also helped the designers think bigger—and a bigger hotel means more guests can experience its award-winning service.

DPR Construction also received an Award of Merit in Manufacturing from ENR California for the new Vantage Data Center. These awards recognize the best projects by region through a panel of judges. We’re excited to have been a part of this project, adding to the job the digital prefabrication benefits of faster scheduling, lower costs, higher quality and increased safety.

The year wrapped up

Truly, we all faced unexpected challenges in 2021. We are proud that, in the face of adversity, we and the clients we’ve collaborated with were able to accomplish so much. We are thankful to our team for proving time and time again that safety, speed and quality are not conflicting goals, and we are thankful to our clients for being on the cutting-edge of construction technology. Together, we made 2021 a year to remember.
